Proposal did not make it to the top 5 or honorable mention of the NYC Midnight microfiction challenge, this I don't move on. I was disappointed but don't regret the experience. I learned a few things.

  1. 250 words is not a lot. Every word has to count. Is there a single word that can replace three? What would describe it better? Is that section needed? I couldn't help wanting to scream at some of the comments, "I only had 250 words!!" I'm not going to even try the 100-word challenge.

  2. Pay attention to time zones. In my head it started and ended at midnight...forgetting that for Pacific Time that would be 9pm. I could have started earlier and given myself more time to edit.

  3. I enjoyed playing with genres that are outside my own. Having such a short word count made it like a puzzle which I enjoy. Add a word here, cut a phrase there.

  4. I'll do it again.

If you try one of the challenges, let me know and good luck. Check out nycmidnight.com.
